An introduction to the origin and development of the East Asian Buddhist spiritual tradition. Beginning with the life of Buddha in India, Buddhism's cultural and social adaptations to China and Japan will be explored. Contemporary, popular, political and spiritual Buddhism will also be discussed.

Presenter: Patrick Scanlan
Pat Scanlan received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Modern Chinese History. He has visited China on numerous occasions. He also has spent some years in countries contiguous to China.
