The Institute for Learning in Retirement was founded at Baldwin-Wallace College, now known as Baldwin Wallace University in the winter of 1992 by a group of college staff and residents from surrounding communities. Although linked to BW through the Office of Adult, Military, and Transfer Services, ILR is an autonomous organization with its own structures, policies, and finances; it is operated, from staff to presenters, on a volunteer basis.
