Cleveland Metroparks Historical Interpreter Doug Kusak takes a light-hearted look at some weighty historical topics. Perfect for those who love to learn but never much cared for history class. Lots of images! No tests! Topics include:

1. The Canal in Cleaveland and the Growth of the Nation

2. Great Lakes Exposition

3. Burning River Requiem — Fires on Water

4. Boulevard of Oaken Dreams — the Automobile Age's Influence on Cleveland Metroparks

5. Salt of the Earth — Cleveland's Salt Mine

6. Wild Card — you vote in Week 5 for the Wild Card presentation in Week 6

Your Instructor


Doug Kusak is an Historical Interpreter with Cleveland Metroparks (since 2007), a part- time Guest Engagement Specialist with Great Lakes Science Center (since 2002), as well as on the Steamship William G. Mather Museum (since 2003). From mid-May through mid- October, he can be found leading the two-hour Cuyahoga “River By Boat” programs on Cle2 – the 17-passenger Cleveland Metroparks excursion vessel.
